MOSCOW, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Emergencies Ministry said Saturday that it has sent 23 tons of humanitarian aid to Indonesia, which was recently stricken by multiple earthquakes and an ensuing tsunami.

The supplies, delivered by an Il-76 cargo plane, include mobile power stations, tents, blankets and water purifiers, which will be distributed to needy residents, the ministry said in a statement.

The humanitarian operation was carried out in accordance with instructions of the Russian government, it said.

A tsunami struck off coastal areas near Talisa beach of Dongala district of Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province last Friday and was triggered by a series of strong quakes.

According to the latest data, the death toll from the disasters has jumped to 1,659, Indonesia's national disaster management agency said Saturday.
