LONDON, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Leicester confirmed on Friday that the club has parted ways with coach Ruud van Nistelrooy after a depressing 27 matches in charge, which ended with the club relegated from the Premier League.

Van Nistelrooy, who had just finished a successful spell in temporary charge of Manchester United, replaced Steve Cooper at the club in November 2024, with Leicester 16th in the table and above the relegation zone, but won just five of his 27 games in charge, with one of those wins against second division QPR in the FA Cup and two more against Ipswich Town and Southampton, whose season also ended with relegation.

19 of Van Nistelrooy's games in charge ended in defeat, with the club setting an unwanted record as being the first team in any of the top four divisions in England to lose eight consecutive matches without scoring a goal.

"Ruud has overseen a challenging period for the Club. From his appointment in November 2024, he approached the role with professionalism, integrity and a clear commitment to our aims, including through the integration of several promising players from the Club's Academy into our First Team environment. Ruud moves on with the respect and thanks of everyone at the Football Club for his dedication and hard work, and with our very best wishes for the future," commented the Leicester website.
