BERLIN, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich marked their Bundesliga dominance with a commanding 4-0 home win over Werder Bremen, highlighted by Harry Kane's landmark 100th goal for the club on Friday.
The record champions flew out of the blocks and could have been in front within the opening minutes, only for goalkeeper Karl Hein, making his league debut for Bremen, to deny Kane twice in quick succession. The visitors, cautious after a heavy loss the previous week, rarely threatened and were largely pinned inside their own half.
Bayern's breakthrough arrived midway through the first period. A dangerous delivery from Michael Olise caused confusion in the box, and defender Jonathan Tah cleverly diverted the ball into the net for his first goal in Bayern colors. That lifted the tempo further, with Serge Gnabry and Olise continuing to press the flanks. Just before halftime, Kane finally made his mark, converting a penalty after being clipped by Marco Friedl.
Bremen attempted to respond after the restart, with Yukinari Sugawara testing Manuel Neuer from distance in the 59th minute, their only shot on target. Yet the hosts remained firmly in control and quickly widened the gap. In the 65th minute, a slick counterattack found Kane in space, and the England captain calmly finished for his second of the evening and his 100th strike in just 104 matches, a feat unmatched across Europe's top leagues.
Substituted to a standing ovation shortly after, Kane left the pitch having underlined his status as Bayern's talisman. There was still time for a fourth goal, as substitute Konrad Laimer finished clinically following Tom Bischof's clever assist.
The victory not only reinforced Bayern's grip at the top but also showcased their attacking depth, with coach Vincent Kompany rotating his lineup while keeping the rhythm intact.
Bremen, on the other hand, struggled to create clear opportunities and will need improvement ahead of their next league outing.
"It was another special moment for Harry Kane. The way he reaches this record and still puts in so much work for the team, I believe that shows the inner hunger he carries," Kompany said. ■
