KABUL, June 28 (Xinhua) -- A new water supply project has been completed and put into operation in northern Afghanistan's Sari Pul province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Saturday.
According to the report, the network, which costs 8 million afghani (about 113,526 U.S. dollars), can provide clean water to nearly 463 families in the province.
Meanwhile, it will assist farmers in irrigating hundreds of acres of land in the area, the report added.
Afghanistan has been suffering from droughts for years, and residents of big cities, including the capital city of Kabul, have been facing extreme shortages of drinking water. ■
